5 Tips for Choosing the Best Plants for Screening

Among the most common garden challenges homeowners encounter when landscaping their homes is the need to create privacy, screen an unsightly view, or divide outdoor spaces into distinct living areas. Selecting the right plants for the job is essential to ensure success and I've assembled five tips that will get you going in the right direction.
I love plants. Plants of all types. I love the diverse shapes, colors, and textures they have, and I enjoy watching them change and grow. Naturally, when I make a new discovery, I'm often moved to try and find a place for it in my own garden.

One way that I bring focus to my garden and deal with this enjoyable but potentially chaotic addiction, is to narrow my choices by asking myself if the potential candidates can step up and perform. Above and beyond sitting there and looking pretty, I want them to be an asset to the garden over multiple seasons or to perform an important garden function with verve and style.

Picking plants for a particular purpose (for example screening, as above) is an ongoing theme on eGardenGo and you can use our filters to help you identify plants or combos to achieve particular results. When looking for plants to do a specific job, use our powerful and unique filters to search for plants or planting combinations based on the functions they're suited to.
