Holy Hot Combos!
It's cold out there … let's warm it up!
I’m almost certain Santa won’t be sending me tickets to spend the holidays in an exotic locale, and since it’s pretty cold out there as I write this, I’m warming myself by a fire of blazing flower and foliage, with visions of next year's garden dancing in my head. Care to join me?

Showy Tropicalismo Border with Canna and Dahlia
This tropicalismo-inspired quartet, with its hotly-colored red, yellow and orange blooms of dahlia, crocosmia and salvia coupled with the bold, showy foliage of Tropicana™ canna, delivers the heat from midsummer onward. This perennial plant combo for full sun is well-suited for an in-ground border planting or would be perfect in a large summer container. The overall vibe is tropical, exotic, and energizing.
This trio of sun-loving perennials is a riot of summer color. The vividly contrasting blooms of the daylily and tickseed in zippy orange and deep purple are a classic color pairing. They’re accompanied in this drought tolerant pairing for full sun by a more muted, multi-hued Agastache in coral tones.
Purple, Orange, and Coral Summer Blooms Combo
Bold Foliage and Richly Colored Blooms
Bold, exotic foliage coupled with richly colored blooms of deep red and lively magenta lend a decidedly tropical mood to this planting combination. Because of a heavy reliance on foliage as well as flower, this combo looks good for a very long period. The bold, burgundy foliage of the red form of Canna musifolia and the earliest bloomer of the bunch, Eggplant Ecstasy daylily, set the tone but are joined shortly thereafter by deep magenta spires of Persicaria ‘Firetail’. Though it holds down the ground plane year-round, the evergreen Sesleria autumnalis ups its game late summer into fall with its display of tawny spikes.
Hope you've enjoyed this bit of seasonal cheer, garden-style!
Until next time, wishing you all of the warmth of the season!
