Savor the Relaxed Beauty of a Graceful Demise

I adore fall. All of it, and everything about it—the cooler temps, the changing light, the shifting of gears. I'm even okay with the return of rain (okay, maybe not the deluge we're experiencing at the moment, but in general it doesn't get me down). I enjoy the feeling of abundance that the garden exudes at the pinnacle of its fullness. And of course, I love the fall foliage colors.

But there's more to the fading season than the traditionally celebrated color of the deciduous trees and shrubs. Instead, in this post we're going to single out plants that have merit based on their dead and dying foliage—these plants are valued for their graceful demise.
Need a creative boost to invigorate your plant selection process? Our site is loaded with designer planting combinations—select a plant then get ideas of what to plant with it. Or search for plants or combos based on color and form, growing conditions, design preferences or needs.
