Last week in my message I talked about the power of using a limited palette of plants when you create your garden.
Unsurprisingly, it turns out I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. I'm at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle this week and several of the display gardens skillfully execute this design technique emphasizing simplicity.
The stylish seating area pictured above, designed by Sue Goetz and installed by Father Nature Landscapes of Tacoma, Washington uses a small number of carefully-chosen, quality materials. Planks of bluestone set in grass, surrounded by a tumble of Carex testacea, coupled with fresh and modern accessories createthis inviting space.
Sometimes the inclusion of a simple shape within a field of one plant is just the thing. In the example below, a trio of repeated spheres set in the field of Acorus gramineus 'Ogon' create
a serene scene.

I'm going to be speaking on Saturday and Sunday and you can see my schedule here. If you're at the show, I hope you'll come by and say hello.
