Even when it's too hot to do much else in the garden, I keep my eyes open for my what-nexts.

Summer Garden Review to Plan for Future Edits and Changes

High Summer is the Perfect Time to Plan for Later

The lazy days of summer are the perfect time to plan for the upcoming changes, edits, and renovations that I'll make to my established garden after the weather cools. At this time of year, I'm looking for spots in my garden that aren't doing much and trying to find ways to improve them. I'm also keeping an eye out for plants that aren't doing well and thinking about how I can make things even better. In the video linked below, I take you on a walkabout in my garden as I talk through some issues I see there and want to fix, what changes I propose to make, and why.

I’ve written before about this part of my gardening process as I've worked through changes in my garden over the years. Though the garden is different now vs. what you might see on some of my older videos, my thought process and the way that I make choices remain the same. I know that gardeners are sometimes hesitant to make big changes in their outdoor spaces, so I hope these offer you some helpful insights for your own gardening journey. After all, “garden” isn’t just a noun—it’s also a verb!

Making Edits to an Established Garden Bed

This feels like a real blast from the past in terms of some of the garden scenes. But again, the thought behind the design process remains the same.

P.S. This is a bit off subject, but wanted let followers in the Portland area know that I'm having a yard sale today (Saturday, August 3rd) from 9 am - 3 pm. It's a mix of this and that, but I do have some garden items that might be of interest.

For example: steel fire pit, shepherd's hook plant stand, several pumps for outdoor fountains, bird bath, some containers, an antique Chinese urn, a carved granite orb pre-drilled to use as fountain, and lots of miscellaneous bits and bobs. Here is a link to my Facebook Event page.
