🌿 Signs of Spring 🌿

Hello gardening friends,

No, spring is not here yet, but I can't help but feel buoyed by some of what I see in my garden. Here and there, winter gems sparkle, and I see many signs of my garden waking up, hinting at delights to come.

It's also a great time to see plants waking up in other people's gardens, too. I've had the pleasure of watching this fantastic specimen of Edgworthia chrysantha evolve over the years. It's one of the best, if not the best, examples of this plant I've ever seen. Whoever is tending it is doing a fantastic job.

After being nearly impossible to find available for sale in our area for the last couple of years, it appears as if the situation has improved somewhat. So if you've been looking to add it to your collection, this might be a good year to do it. But don't hesitate too long, as I'm sure the numbers are still not great.

You can also see Edgeworthia chrysantha anchoring a plant combination in a client’s garden in the photo above, taken in early summer. Though prized for its fragrant winter flowers, it holds its own in the foliage department: large, attractive blue-ish green leaves elevated above a tapestry of handsome foliage that includes an evergreen grass, heuchera, and a couple of ferns. To get the full details of all the plants included in this combination, follow this link.

If you watched the video above showing my February garden, you'll see that I'm getting a lot of joy from my early bulbs right now. For tips and inspiration for upping your early-season color game, take a look at this blog post.
