The Display Gardens
A Whirlwind (Virtual) Tour of NWFGS
Sharing is Caring!

It's (garden) party time in Seattle this week! The Northwest Flower and Garden Show (now Festival) is celebrating its 30th year. I had the pleasure of getting an early peek at the display gardens because I was asked to be a judge for the Garden Design Magazine Award on the Tuesday before opening.
West Seattle Nursery
This garden, created by West Seattle Nursery, was a favorite of just about everybody I talked to and was the garden that we selected as our award winner for the magazine. I was captivated from the moment I spotted it. I loved its clean fresh details and think that they did a fantastic job carrying a theme throughout.
The Display Gardens
Some gardens say "party" more than othersthis garden offered a whimsical take on incorporating games into the garden.
The Display Gardens
This garden featured a continuing thread of red accents. The elevated planters on the right-hand side were especially clever; large stainless steel bowls were employed as planters and perched atop sections of painted PVC pipe of varied heights. I found the shape of the arbor quite interesting and it gave me some fresh ideas as to how I might adapt and change the concept for a project someday.
The Display Gardens
The display gardens typically do a great job of providing inspiring ideas for creating outdoor living areas, but they're packed with details to examine and enjoy as well.
Beyond Pinterest
And of course, one of the main reasons I was at the show—my presentation, Beyond Pinterest—Unlocking the Secrets Behind the Pretty Picture. It was a hit!
After the talk, I got a chance to connect with some pretty cool people. One of my favorite things about getting out and about like this is meeting and talking with gardeners—there are usually some current eGardenGo users in the audience and I especially enjoy turning new users on to the site.

The show continues through the weekend, so if you're in the area, you can still make it. If that's not in the cards for you, you can get a flavor of the show with these photos.
Another fun thingJim from Garden Design and I took a spin around the floor and did some quick, informal video clips to record some of my observations about the show. You can see them on Garden Design's Instagram channel here, here, and here.

As much as I love these jaunts and getting out to connect with the tribe—there's no place like home, there's no place like homeI miss my guys! All of them for sure, but Combohuahua ... well, just look at that face!
