"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." —John Lubbock, The Use of Life
Tell a Friend!
Pictured above is one of my favorite vignettes spotted while touring gardens last week—simple, but incredibly beautiful. It exudes the magic of a summer's day—I could float away on those waves of Mexican feather grass! Click through for the plant list.
This vignette, with its sweeps and drifts of grasses, perennials and flowering shrubs, is backed by a hedge of clumping bamboo and a trio of Stewartia pseudocamellia for an overall feeling that is serene and restful (click through for plant details). The vivid purple spires are Astilbe chinensis v. taq. 'Purpurkerze' , an eGardenGo fave, but you could
easily sub another variety if you have trouble locating it in your area.
In ground or in a container, this plant combo is a festival of color from summer to fall. Though nearly perfect as-is, Shasta daisies with their sunny eyes and bright white collars would be a great addition to this vignette.
Hope you have a safe and festive holiday weekend filled with summer breezes and easy times with family and friends!
